Water Safety Plans Training in NWSC Bushenyi-Ishaka Area – September 2017

Bushenyi, 4-5 September 2017

Mr. Christopher Kanyesigye of NWSC implemented a training on Water Safety Plans (WSPs) for 22 participants including Branch Managers and Technical Supervisors from all the branches of NWSC Bushenyi Area.

During the first day, the training started with a presentation describing all the steps in the development of a WSP, as per the WHO/IWA manual. Then, participants presented their experiences with respect to risks arising in the water supply chain from catchment to customers. Finally, the WSP team for Bushenyi-Ishaka Area, comprising 10 staff members, was formed and duties and responsibilities were assigned; the team consists of a Team Leader, a Secretary and team members.

The second day was spent on a guided field visit of three water systems: Bushenyi-Ishaka, Rubirizi and Kabwohe-Itendero. The system description was verified and the identification and mapping of the key sampling points was done.

This was the first of a series of training that will take place under the umbrella of project SMALL.
